Cranbrook House & Gardens Portrait Photography Session Terms and Conditions

Types of Photography
This session is for portrait photography only (such as family, senior, proposal, engagement, wedding and other select special occasions). Homecoming/prom photography is only permitted for Cranbrook Schools students. 

Any other professional photography (e.g., landscape, still life, fashion, product, commercial, etc.) is not permitted without prior approval.

Cranbrook Gardens Rules

  • Drones are not permitted at Cranbrook.
  • Pets are not allowed. Service animals are always welcome. 
  • Do not touch the sculptures, fountains, artifacts, or other artwork.
  • Do not climb on any sculptures, fountains, trees or walls. 
  • Do not feed or disturb the wildlife.
  • Do not touch the plant life or stand in garden beds.
  • Do not enter any fountains, pools, streams, ponds or lakes.
  • Do not move planters, statues, or benches. 
  • Play any music or other audio through headphones only.
  • Shoes and shirts must be worn at all times.
  • Please supervise children at all times.
  • No yelling or use of vulgar language.
  • Outside food or drink is not permitted.
  • No alcohol may be brought onto the premises.
  • Smoking, e-cigarettes, or similar devices are not permitted.

Photography Session Rules

  • Please bring verification of your scheduled session to present to Cranbrook Security or other staff upon request. 
  • A session is no more than 2 hours. Please adhere to your agreed time slot.
  • Photographers may unload equipment in the Cranbrook House Courtyard, but all vehicles must be relocated to designated parking areas. 
  • Tripods are not permitted at Cranbrook Gardens. Large props/extra lighting/décor are not permitted.
  • We do not offer an area for outfit changes.
  • Photographs must not include any Cranbrook students, faculty, staff, residents, or other guests outside of your group without their express permission. 
  • Please ensure photography equipment does not block public pathways. The public may be touring Cranbrook House & Gardens during your session.
  • Drones are not permitted on campus.
  • Please leave your photoshoot area(s) clean and free of trash.
  • Use of props (e.g., candles, fireworks, sparklers, lanterns, fog machines, smoke bombs, balloons, rice, confetti, glitter, flower petals, etc.) is not permitted.
  • Explicit photos and attire are prohibited. 
  • Photography is not permitted on school grounds or other areas beyond Cranbrook Gardens without proper permission.
  • Posing in roadways or other vehicle thoroughfares is prohibited.
  • Entire party is limited to the outdoor areas designated on your agreement.
  • Maximum group size is limited to 12 people (not including photographer)
  • Cranbrook reserves the right to relocate a session to another area on campus if necessary.

Restrooms
Public restrooms are located at the Gatehouse Welcome Center at the main entrance to Cranbrook House & Gardens off Lone Pine Road. The restrooms are open May through September, from 7:00am to 7:00pm daily. We do not offer an area for outfit changes.

Refund Policy
In case of inclement weather, session must be rescheduled, no indoor areas may be used. Please notify us immediately via email if you need to reschedule or cancel your session at photos@cranbrook.edu. Due to the popularity of the sessions, refunds will only be given if canceled 10 days in advance of the session.  

Property
Cranbrook Educational Community is hereby expressly released and discharged from any and all liability for any loss or damage to Photographer, guests’ or visitors’ personal property on the premises.

Insurance
Workers’ Compensation Insurance. Cranbrook Educational Community and Photographer shall maintain workers’ compensation insurance as required by law covering all their respective employees working in connection with this agreement/reservation. Photographer also agrees to maintain Comprehensive or Commercial General Personal Injury and Property Damage Liability Insurance in the Combined Single Limit of not less than One Million Dollars ($1,000,000) for each occurrence, including, but not limited to, Personal Injury Liability, Broad Form Property Damage Liability, Blanket Contractual Liability and Products Liability covering only the activities of the Photographer and shall provide Cranbrook Educational Community with a certificate evidencing such policies upon request. The insurance policies shall contain covenants by the issuing company that the policies shall not be canceled without thirty- (30) day’s prior written notice. Cranbrook Educational Community shall be named as an additional insured under Photographer’s policies of insurance to the extent Cranbrook Educational Community is indemnified.    

Indemnity by Photographer
Photographer agrees to indemnify, defend and hold harmless Cranbrook Educational Community and its Officers, Directors, agents and employees from and against any claim, cost, expense or liability (including attorney’s fees), whether arising before or after completion of the Photographer’s use of the facilities, caused by, arising out of, resulting from or occurring in connection with the performance of the services provided by the Photographer, or its subcontractors, agents and employees, whether or not caused in part by the active or passive negligence of other fault of a party indemnified excepting only claims, cost, expense or liability caused by the sole negligence of a party indemnified hereunder. In the case of claims against Cranbrook Educational Community or its officers, directors, agents and employees by an employee of the Photographer, anyone directly or indirectly employed by Photographer or anyone for whose acts Photographer may be liable, the indemnification obligation under this paragraph shall not be limited in any way by any limitation of the amount or type of damages, compensation or benefits payable by or for the Photographer under workman’s compensation acts, disability benefits acts or other employee benefit acts.

Disruption of Programming
Photographer understands taking of photographs must not disrupt the educational and cultural programs of the Cranbrook Educational Community. If a disruption does occur, Cranbrook reserves the right to terminate the photography shoot. Cranbrook reserves the right to terminate the photography session if the conduct of Photographer and other involved parties is inappropriate or disruptive. 

Patrol Verification
During routine patrol, Cranbrook Security officers will verify that the photo shoot activities are being conducted in accordance with the information provided. Any variance such as location, number of participants or other related activities will be documented in a Field Incident Report. Client may be billed for more participants than reserved or property damage.

Visitors participating in portrait sessions without a reservation will be asked to leave the property. 
 
Use of Images
Photos/videos taken at Cranbrook are intended for personal purposes only and photographer and client agree the photos/videos will not be used for commercial purposes or publication without the express written consent of Cranbrook Educational Community.
