Cranbrook House & Gardens is a historic facility preserved and maintained as closely as possible to its original design. As such, there are certain natural and artificial surface conditions, such as grass, wood chips, stones, stairs, steep slopes, and uneven terrain which can make walking and use of a wheelchair difficult. Assistance for persons using wheelchairs or walkers is recommended.
Cranbrook Gardens: Recommended Route
Three accessible parking spaces are located on the exit drive just south of the Cranbrook House Courtyard.
From the accessible parking area, follow the drive south for about 125 feet and make a right onto the gravel service drive, and immediately make another right to enter the wooded path that runs parallel to the exit drive.
Please note that there are some roots and uneven terrain on this short, wooded path (about 125 feet). Assistance for persons using wheelchairs or walkers is recommended.
The wooded path leads to the Library Terrace. From the Library Terrace (the terrace consists of mostly-level grass and paved sidewalk), guests can look out at the Reflecting Pool to the west, enjoy the Library Garden, and look out at Conifer Hill and Kingswood Lake to the north.
Retrace your path to return to the accessible parking area. From here, head north to the Cranbrook House Courtyard. You can enjoy the exterior of Cranbrook House and the Cranbrook Courtyard Garden before taking the entrance drive south until you hit the service drive.
Make a left to head north on the service drive.
From the Service Court, you can view the Sunken Garden to the east. You can head further north to the East Terrace to enjoy this shady terrace, look out at the lower level of the Herb Garden, and view the Sunken Garden from above.
