Cranbrook Gardens Tour

Meet at the Gatehouse Welcome Center 

Tour Cranbrook Gardens while learning about George Gough Booth and Ellen Scripps Booth, the founders of Cranbrook Educational Community, and the remarkable grounds they created surrounding Cranbrook House. You’ll discover extensive plantings, fountains, statuary, lakes, and streams. Tours of Cranbrook Gardens include the Greek Theatre, Sunken Garden, and more! 

Cranbrook Gardens tours are guided by Cranbrook House & Gardens Auxiliary docents. Cranbrook House & Gardens Auxiliary volunteers also design, plant, and maintain the gardens.

For the well-being of everyone on the tour, please note:

  • Tour sizes will be limited to ensure space for social distancing. We may expand the capacity as the season progresses. 
  • Reservations are required in advance online.
  • Please have a mask handy for any spaces where social distancing can’t be maintained.
  • The schedule may need to be adjusted to ensure the safety of our guests and volunteers.

Accessibility
Cranbrook House & Gardens is a historic facility preserved and maintained as closely as possible to its original design. As such, there are certain natural and artificial surface conditions, such as grass, wood chips, stones, stairs, steep slopes, and uneven terrain which can make walking and use of a wheelchair difficult. Assistance for guests using wheelchairs or walkers is recommended.

Adults: $15
Seniors (60+), Students, and Active Duty Military: $10
Children (8 and under): Free
Cranbrook House & Gardens Auxiliary Members: Free

Please click the buttons at the bottom of this page or call 248.645.3149 to reserve your tour of Cranbrook Gardens. Reservations are required by 12:00pm the Friday before each tour. Space is limited.

Rain Policy
We may cancel the tour if there is a high probability of inclement weather forecasted during or before each tour. If we decide to cancel the tour, guests will be notified by email (please add csmith@cranbrook.edu, efranchy@cranbrook.edu, and houseandgardens@cranbrook.edu to your contact lists) and/or text, and an alert will be placed on our website. In most cases, participants will be contacted at least an hour before the tour begins.

Refund Policy
Guests will receive a refund if a tour is canceled by Cranbrook due to inclement weather or other reasons. Tours are otherwise nonrefundable

Parking is available onsite in our main parking lot and on Lone Pine Road. Please check in at the Gatehouse Welcome Center (the small building immediately to your left when you enter our main entrance off Lone Pine Road).

Photography
We encourage guests to take pictures during their visit to Cranbrook Gardens and tag us on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram. Photographs must be for personal use only. Tripods and other photography equipment are not permitted. Please click here for more info on Cranbrook’s photography policy. While on the grounds, visitors may be photographed by Cranbrook House & Gardens photographers for use in promotion of events like these.

Acknowledgment of Risk
An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is a contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, guests with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable. By registering for a tour of Cranbrook Gardens, you voluntarily assume all risks related to COVID-19 exposure.

Additional Information
Tours will start promptly at their scheduled times. Please arrive 15 to 20 minutes early to allow time to park and check in. This is an outdoor walking tour. Guests are encouraged to check the weather forecast and dress comfortably for the conditions.
