Yoga in the Gardens FAQ

What changes are you making during the COVID-19 pandemic?

  • Class sizes will be limited this year to ensure that there is at least six feet between each participant and spaces will be marked.
  • Registration and waivers must be completed in advance online. Drop-ins will not be allowed during the 2020 season.
  • Guests are required to wear a face mask to check in and are encouraged to keep them on until the class begins.
  • Yoga instructors will not be providing any participant adjustments.

Please do not come to class if you are not feeling well, if you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19, or if you have recently had close contact with a confirmed or probable COVID-19 case.

Who teaches each yoga class?
Class is taught by instructors from Citizen Yoga who have completed their 200-hour RYT, a Yoga Alliance-certified program. Yoga instructors may change from class to class.

What type of yoga class do you offer?
Classes are Citizen Yoga’s Citizen Standard unless noted otherwise. Citizen Standard is a class that educates on all the essentials to ensure a safe, aligned yoga practice. This is a perfectly balanced class for both the seasoned and newer practitioner. In the class, you will learn about breath, foot placement, standing poses, rotation of the legs, health of the pelvis, and foundational elements of the practice. It is a great experience, as well as, educational resource.

What should I bring to class?
Participants should bring a face mask, their own yoga mat/towel (grass may be damp, consider bringing an extra towel), and a water bottle.

Athletic attire is recommended.

Do I need to sign a waiver?
Yes, all participants must compete and submit our online waiver and photo release form prior to class.

Where will class take place?
Class will take place outside at Cranbrook Gardens. For the 2020 season, classes are scheduled to take place on the East Terrace. This shady expanse of lawn is just east of our Herb Garden and north of the Sunken Garden. Please note that terrain may be uneven. Click here for an estate map.

Where are you located and is there parking?
Cranbrook House & Gardens is located at 380 Lone Pine Road, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48304. Parking is available onsite and on Lone Pine Road.  Click here for a map and driving directions.

Are there restrooms available?
Please note that our restrooms are currently closed.

What happens if it rains?
We may cancel the class if there is a high probability of inclement weather forecasted during or before each session. If we decide to cancel a class, participants will be notified by email (please add efranchy@cranbrook.edu and houseandgardens@cranbrook.edu to your contact lists) and an alert will be placed on our website. In most cases, participants will be contacted at least an hour before class begins.

What is your refund policy?
If a class is cancelled by Cranbrook due to inclement weather or other reasons, participants may transfer their registration to another upcoming Yoga in the Gardens session that season (space permitting). If you are unable to attend one of the remaining classes, you may choose to have your registration refunded or converted to a tax-deductible donation. You must notify us of your preference by the Monday after the canceled class. Classes are otherwise non-refundable (exceptions to this policy may be made due to COVID-19).
